Tainan’s Shalun zone is a major focus of the green energy technology development program under the central government’s 5+2 Innovative Industries Plan. Ground was broken in early 2018 for construction of Shalun Green Energy Science City’s brick-and-mortar facilities. Tainan City Government and National Chiao Tung University (now National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University) have both stood as witnesses to Shalun’s transformation and industrial blossoming, and now intensive promotion for future construction on Green Energy Science City is set to begin. Work on the Terrace, encompassing Academia Sinica’s Southern Taiwan Biotechnology Center, International Convention Center (ICC) Tainan, and broad avenues that provide external connections, began in 2019.

National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University was the first organization to move into Shalun Green Energy Science City. National Chiao Tung University established her Tainan branch in 2009. Step by step, the Chimei Building was completed; the College of Photonics began graduating impressive talent; and Shalun has grown steadily around us. Our Tainan branch has been a major partner throughout the development of Shalun Green Energy Science City. To better match demand from the Terrace, in Academic Year 2019–2020, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University’s Tainan campus opened the College of Artificial Intelligence, which now further drives and reinforces synergies for this major Tainan academia-industrial cluster.
